As we are gathered around zoom or YouTube or Facebook together, we are still God’s community, and it does not depend on the building. As we learned in confirmation, communion is God’s Promise, the Word spoken, and the earthly elements shared in community. Through the Eucharist, we receive God’s grace, forgiveness and promise of eternal life. Because Holy Communion should be celebrated within community, if you choose to watch the service later, the communion portion of the service will have been removed from the recording since Holy Communion needs to be done in community, and the community will no longer be gathered.
You are encouraged to be prepared for this service by having bread (leaven/unleavened/matzah) and wine/grape (red or white) juice available. The elements will be consecrated we will all partake in the meal together, a practice we are calling Distributed Communion. Following the service, if you have not finished the wine and eaten all the bread prepared for communion, you have two ways of disposing of the elements, either consume the rest or dispose of it outside on the ground.
